Crafting Fail

I am not crafty. I can barely sew a button on pants. I am terrible at painting anything. Awful crafts person.
But when someone gave me the idea to make some of the beer caps of Lee's favorite "rare" beers into magnets, I thought "I can do that..."

Yeah not so much.

I started by opening the package and heating up a hot glue gun and laying out all the bottle caps.
One of the things I was making a magnet of is a bottle opener from Lee's favorite brewery, Dog Fish Head.

Then my bright idea was to fill each cap with glue (mainly to make the magnet stick out far enough to keep the cap off the fridge) plop the magnet in the middle and be done with it.

This didn't work for several reasons.

1. I bought super strong magnets. So not only did they stick to the bottle cap (too low however) but they flung themselves across the table and popped together.

2. They stuck to the bottle caps so when I went to plop a magnet into the glue...
I hate my life.

EFF.

So I ended up popping the glue out of the bottle cap and trying again.

Better. But guess what happened when I went to glue it back inside? Yeah, POP! the magnet ricocheted across the table to join it's friends. After wrestling and glue-ing, I got one made.

By the time I made a handful I was out of glue. And the new glue sticks I bought were too big for the gun since i didn't pay attention at the store. So I said fuckit and put them out (carrying them 1 in each hand at a time so they didn't stick together like effing love bugs) out to the fridge.

The fridge is covered in rust since the dryer isn't properly vented. This old house... killin me.

They are a little wompyjaw (not a real word, so can't spell it..) but at least I did something sweet for him, right?

Because those magnets resulted in a glass of wine.

Any ideas on how to make this work better next time?

Mother's Day

On October 14, 1980 - my mother officially became a mother:

1982 in Clute, TX
Although I had felt motherly for a long time:

Luther - Lived 17 years
Lola - now 5 years old
Teddy - Now 4 years old
On November 30, 2010 - I officially became a mother:

Logan Lee Nash
While nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming emotions that followed his birth, he is a true joy in my life.

Being a mother isn't exactly how you picture it, at least not every single day. It's challenging, wonderful, frustrating, joyful, loving, confusing, tiring, and completely awesome. All at the same time.

And I wouldn't take back a single bit of it.

Happy Mothers day to all you mother's out there, especially the new ones. Enjoy your day!

25 Things

**No Friday Face this week. I may move this to Reader of the Month... if you want to be my next Reader of the Month, shoot me an email!**

I was reading through my RSS feed while having my morning cup of joe (poor guy) and loved this post by Airing My Dirty Laundry..

Photobucket

So I decided to try it out.

1. I am extremely loyal person. Ask any friend or employer. And of course Lee.
2. I have been to 8 Jimmy Buffett Concerts. I want to go to more and I hope to take Logan before he stops touring...
3. I get pretty darn upset if Lee doesn't like something I have cooked.
4. I am super worried that people don't like me. This causes me to clam up. (Sorry Houston Blogger Roundup people...)
5. I rarely feel as pretty/smart/funny (name it) as others when I am in a group of women. (again, sorry Houston Blogger Roundup peeps..)
6. I am grateful for each and every follower. It makes me feel good that someone is interested in my stories.
7. I honestly can't believe how happy Lee and I are. It's a little freakishly good...
8. I love my job, yet I yearn to stay home with Logan.
9. I want Logan to grow up yet stay little all at the same time.
10. I miss my family since I live so far from them.
11. I would have a shoe/bag habit but I sure don't have the money!
12. I am learning to take better photos but I don't want to be a photographer.
13. I would be a wedding planner if I wouldn't have to work every single Saturday!
14. When I was growing up, I wanted for several years in a row to be a homicide detective. This may be why I watch tons of "whodunit" type shows and movies.
15. I hate hate hate "masks." They terrify me.
16. I do want to see the new Scream movie, yet - refer to #15.
17. I hope Lee and I can afford to move to an islandy/beachy town one day, before all our body parts are saggy.
18. Even though people thought they would become "second", we still love our dogs tons and see them as members of the family.
19. I miss sleeping.
20. I love watching him grow and learn.
21. I continue to want to learn more things about cooking and baking.
22. I am an only child and I am super ok with that. and I am super ok with Logan also being an only child.
23. I drink too much wine and coffee.. but I enjoy it!
24. I enjoy eating too much to care about that extra 5-10 pounds. Own it!
25. If I could eat nothing else for the rest of my life... chocolate chip cookies would be it.

Random enough?

Bath Time!

Remember this?

First Real Bath

Now look:

In fact we waited so long to put him in this tub, I think we have a month tops before we have to convert to the bath tub chair and using the actual tub!!

Amazon.com

Other tub photos (from the kitchen tub)

I missed it since it fell on the weekend - but he is 5 months old now! I am guessing at least 17-18 pounds. He eats about 7oz at a time, 4 times a day. He technically sleeps through the night but I still have to wake up a few times and give him a paci. This is why I moved him back in the bedroom with us so that all I have to do is roll over and pat him rather than travel the hall.

What I am loving Wednesday

Here are just a few things that I am currently loving..

1. Magazines. Boy oh boy am I addicted to these. Just look at the current haul on my coffee table.

And really, that isn't all of them. Obsessed.

2. The super duper cute little doggie pin that Chloe over at My New Life as a Housewife made for Logan!
He is contemplating why it's taking momma so long to make something to send back to her!

3. A new blog I have discovered! Everyone needs to head over and visit The Girl with Wanderlust. I made her the button of the month over there in the left sidebar. She rocks.

4. As always - this face:

5. In a word - BLOGS. I follow at least 60 blogs, all recently organized into my Google Reader to simplify my life. I also love working on this blog. It has been really rewarding lately and I appreciate all you that read and comment. Love ya!

What are you lovin this Wednesday?

Old times are good times...

Awhile back, I dug up my old Livejournal and exported the entire thing into Word so I could keep it.

Then I sat down and read it.

Wow. How times have changed and yet... in some ways not at all!
For your reading pleasure - check out my oldies...
------------------------------------
LiveJournal let you put what mood you were in, and Noise In my Head (aka what are you listening to?).. This shows you I haven't understood Donald's choice of music since 2003.
Jul. 22nd, 2003 | 07:10 pm
I feel...:  amused
Noise in my head...: There goes donald with his Launch Radio bad music again...

----------------------------------
This is one of the first few trips to Houston for me. I seem obsessed about things being expensive and feeling stupid. Also, please don't get the idea that I don't like his sister, I just couldn't believe that high school kids did stuff like this because I sure didn't!

A weekend in Houston sometimes makes me feel stupid..
Aug. 2nd, 2003 | 11:41 am
I feel...:  silly
Noise in my head...: Not a peep in this house.. a little traffic outside

Ok. I know I am not stupid, but I am also not an academic scholar.. UNLIKE Lee's sister, Laura who made a 1560 on her SAT's the FIRST try. I am staying in her room since she is studying abroad in Chile.. yeah, she's still in HIGH SCHOOL. Then, when I took a gander at her book shelf, every other book had something to do with the SAT's. Example: The Real SAT's...Where the Sidewalk Ends....Word Freak (to build vocabulary)...Harry Potter...SAT's and you...Fox Trot.. See what I mean? It is kind of hard to swallow that! (but i did read the Fox Trot comics...)
Today Lee and I are going to do a little shopping and then go see American Wedding..the last American Pie movie (c'mon, can they REALLY make another one?) Then we will hang out with his parents a little before going to eat at a place called the Red Onion, south american food. It should be interesting. And $$$$.
-----------------------------------------
What did we do before Txt Message? Blog alert?! Looking back on this, he was probably asleep.

I am so paranoid!
Oct. 8th, 2003 | 10:19 pm
I feel...:  worried
Noise in my head...: The Bachelor.. BOB!!

Ok... everyone who knows donald knows he is great about calling people back when he misses a call. I called him twice from work and twice since I have gotten home and i haven't heard a word from him. Since I am paranoid, I am worried! Where are you donald? CARL - what is your phone number! I am trying to be good and not start freaking, but it IS very unlike Donald to not get phone calls. :(
--------------------------------
I think I got a little mad at the Walmart lady.. kind of getting mad again reading this...

Ode to Walmart's shitty service..
May. 5th, 2004 | 11:10 pm
I feel...:  pissed off

Dear Oversense of importance, Self-checkout watching, Walmart lady...

Do not come up to me and treat me like a shoplifter... I thought the tv guide scanned on the self checker, but it didn't. Don't EVEN snatch my reciept out of my hand and show me it didn't scan and act like I am trying to steal this $2.49 tv guide magazine.
Have a nice day furthering your career as a Walmart checkout lady.. i bet you get that maroon vest soon...

Thank you.

Well there you have it ... the beginnings of blogging..
