Cookies and Naked Babies

I did it, guys. I made the sand dollar cookies..

They were....

Not good.

I mixed the ingredients and cut out my little cookies...

uneven.. I don't have a round cookie cutter....
Then I put the almonds and cinnamon sugar on them...

So far so good...
And I baked them..

Pretty!
Then I ate one.
Dry...
Not sweet...
But pretty no?

Next time I may just make a simple sugar-cookie recipe and freeze the dough in a roll so I can just cut cookies. Same effect, more yummy-ness.

In other news, Logan had his first diaper rash and I was advised to let him "air it out."

So we got on the play mat, towels ready, and played.

Not shamelessly showing baby butt, but you get the point...
He peed. twice. and squealed and LOVED being naked.

Yep, he's my husband's son allright...

I have a bit of blogger's block.. I am working through it so bear with me!

Sigh. I'm horrible at baking cookies. Either they spread so much that they become one giant mat of inedible cookie, or they're dry as sawdust. By the way, I love your play mat - it would come in handy for potty training too!

Try rolling them into balls with your hands, and press them slightly--just enough to put the almond slices on top--so that they spread when baking. They'll end up a little thicker and retain some moisture. You could also trim a few minutes off the baking time and let them sit on the baking sheet out of the oven to "finish." The residual heat from the tray will help them stiffen a bit so you don't end up with limp cookies, but still allow them to be thick enough to retain moisture and be softer/chewier.

Unfortunately, it's a delicate balance, but one that can be learned with patience and practice.

Also, if you have enough cookies to do more than one sheet-full, only bake one at a time. See how they come out, adjust cooking time accordingly, try again. This way you get to practice multiple methods per batch until you find just the right combo.

The cookies look so good. I think the sugar cookie idea will be better. The naked baby --- priceless!!

I think part of the issue is that there was no real sugar, only powdered sugar and they were just dry from that too... Oh well. Thanks for all the advice!
