Trying to feel justified...

This is not the first time I have had this thought, so I am thinking that means I need to act on it.
I have worried that Teddy/Lola could get lost some day (shudder at the thought!). I remember that the back gate was left open by contractors and they got as far as 2 houses down on the sidewalk before I found them. That happened twice.
So if they dug out of the yard, are staying with someone and get out of their yard, etc, I have to trust that the person who found them would call the number on the tag.
The next thought is - if they decided to be horrible people and keep them (i could cry right now thinking about this) - they would feed them Purina Chow and wonder why they are puking/pooping everywhere and maybe not take care of them.
So I have decided that I should get them each a second tag to put on their collars that says "Requires Special Food." That way, the horrible person would decide it is better to return them. I also put the vet's name/number on the tag, so at least they could be taken there as a last result.

My fellow pet owners what are your thoughts on this?

Not a bad idea. I have thought about Micro-chipping Chynna several times. We just haven't yet. I can tell you that the week she was lost after she ran away from my Mom's house while we were out of state, was one of the worst weeks of my life. I still get teared up thinking about it. Do whatever you have to to keep those puppies safe and close to you.

the microchip idea makes sense.

as for the tag...i just think that if someone was going to be shallow enough to keep dogs despite their having tags...that the other things would be ignored too. at that point, you're not dealing with a very nice person and what else would you expect of them?

I have to say that I agree with Donald. I also have to say that I also worry about the EXACT same thing happening to my pups.

I also have a complete set of updated instructions for my family of what to do/ how to handle Kiki and Tot if god forbid anything ever happened to both Matt and I.

That being said, you might want to look into Dog GPS collars - it's a special collar with GPS that you can put on your dogs. If you do a google search for it, there are lots of different brands that come up... Let me know if you check it out. I might have to get one of those one day.

I also should have said...I remember when you first got him! And then realized that it doesn't seem like we've know each other for over 2 years! Where has the time gone!?!?

BTW - Come see your present on my blog...
